A One Day Workshop on “Research Paper Publications” organized by Research Development Committee, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, Nagaland was held on 21st September 2021. Dr Aotemshi I., Asst. Professor, Dept. of Maths, hosted the First session. He welcomed all the participants and gave a brief overview of the programme. The Welcome note was delivered by Mrs. R. Arenla Aier, Vice Principal, FAC. She welcomed the Resource persons Dr. Suraiya Tabassum, Associate Professor, Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women’s Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi and Dr Toka Swu, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Pondicherry University to the program, and highlighted the significance and need of research-oriented activities and publications for academic institutions. She also thanked the college RDC for organizing this much needed workshop.
After the host read out the credentials of the first resource person Dr. Suraiya Tabassum started her presentation on ‘Social Science Research: An introduction and insights.’ She emphasized that Social Science research should explore, investigate, and incorporate policy recommendations in a wholesome way so that the researchers are able to draw light to the realities of the research subjects. She talked about initiating research with the motivation and with a clear intent of heart and mind to bring about a change in the social system with the research that we pursue. She highlighted the need to be open to any element of surprise in the course of the findings, to have built-in reality checks, to stay in charge of our methodologies, among many other pointers. She also emphasized the need to have a strong theoretical framework to navigate the literature reviews, research tools and analyses. After her presentation, more insights and doubts were addressed during the participatory Q & A session which was moderated by Dr. Temjennaro Jamir, Asstt. Professor, Dept. of Education.
The second session was hosted by Dr. Imliwati Longkumer, Asstt. Professor, Dept. of Chemistry. Dr Toka Swu delivered his presentation on ‘Research Paper Publications – Perspectives in Science.’ At the outset he emphasized of the importance of foundational knowledge, gathered information on methodologies/techniques, and a positive attitude. Taking cues from his own research and publications, he elaborated on the research writing techniques that every research needs to heed to so as to avoid any setbacks during the course of writing and submission for publications. He demonstrated the use of Mendeley App, a free citation tool, and Turnitin, for ease of referencing in research articles/reviews and to check plagiarism, respectively. The Q & A was moderated by Dr. Aolemla Pongener, Asstt. Professor, Dept. of Botany. Dr. Lanurela, FAC IQAC Coordinator gave the concluding remarks and words of appreciation. A total number of 55 FAC Faculty and participants from other colleges too joined in the lively talk and interaction.
